Can I damage the instrument if I miswire it?

This depends on the instrument

Stewart Warner speedometers and tachometers have reverse wiring protection.

Under normal circumstances our gauges can be miswired without being permanently damaged.

Ammeters that require shunt resistors must be wired correctly or the ammeter will be shorted instantly.
