For selecting a pyrometer, what information should I have ready when contacting a distributor or sales rep?

  1. Temperature range you want the pyrometer to cover (you may need to contact your equipment manufacturer to determine the operating exhaust temperature under normal conditions).
  2. You need to determine the distance between the sender probe (thermocouple) and the gauge location.
  3. Diameter of the opening the instrument will be mounted in
  4. Do you require lighting in the instrument
  5. What is the voltage of the system you will be running the pyrometer on (Note: Some of the Stewart Warner pyrometers do not require external power to drive the gauge. The voltage needed is for lighting requirements only. Other pyrometers requiring power to drive the gauge require a minimum of 12V.)

If you wish to match the style of existing instruments you should also have the following:

  1. If your current instruments are a Stewart Warner line, which line (Seaworthy, Heavy Duty Plus, etc) (see the Stewart Warner Products page for the product lines)
  2. Bezel color wanted (black, polished, etc)
  3. Dial face and graphics (black dial, white numbers, etc)
  4. Pointer type and color (i.e. red with black hub)

Note: Stewart Warner has 4 styles of pyrometers each in 2" and 3" sizes. The Wings lines also have matching pyrometers.

Stewart Warner pyrometers, thermocouples, and extensions/lead wires are each sold separately.
